Online Maternity Retailer Opens Wyckoff Storefront

Bump to Bump opened in late June after two years buying and selling maternity clothes online.

For the last two years, Wayne resident Heather Milton has operated a business from home buying and selling maternity clothes online, but “Bump to Bump” lacked the space to connect personally with new and soon-to-be mothers.

When a Franklin Ave. storefront opened adjacent to Sweet Lullaby, a retail store for new mothers, she jumped at the chance to give her open a new retail outlet.

Bump to Bump opened in late June, and in the month since Milton has seen a steady trickle of new customers as she transitions into the full-time management of the consignment shop, which consigns gently worn maternity clothes and sells them for discounted prices.

“One of the things I found when I was pregnant is that I didn’t have anyone I knew who was my size and had clothes,” Milton says, noting that the expense of buying new clothes that will only be worn for a few months can mount for some women.

With her shop, she says, “moms that are finished with their maternity clothes can make a couple bucks, and moms that need them can save a couple bucks.”

According to Milton, she’s found a niche with her business model, which doesn’t exist in other shops around North Jersey. And the spot next to Sweet Lullaby was the perfect location, tapping into an existing consumer base in the small 300 Franklin Ave. commercial strip for new mothers.

Milton says that with the new storefront comes an advantage for customers, who can now try on clothes and browse the discounted designer labels that the store offers, allowing expecting mothers some added fashion flare during the final months of their pregnancies.

“Maternity clothes are often worn for about five months and that’s it,” Milton says. “I wanted to help pregnant women find gently used maternity clothes that wouldn’t break the bank, but would also allow them to look their best during the one time their body makes the most significant changes.”
