Koko FitClub Opens in Wyckoff

The fitness center, in business at Boulder Run since May 29, will hold its official grand opening Saturday.

If you’ve ever wandered aimlessly about the gym, desirous of a workout but at a loss for what to do with the machines around you, you may be in luck.

The staff at Koko FitClub, a fitness center franchised by a Wyckoff family who opened their second location this month, insists that the facility is not a gym.

“We’re not a gym, we’re a personal training station at a fraction of the cost,” said marketing and operations director Alyssa Weisler. “We’re not about hanging out. There’s no ‘scene.’”

It certainly doesn’t look like a gym. What sets Koko aside from traditional gyms is the guidance that it provides. Free staff guidance is available 12 hours a day during the week, and the machines themselves guide you through a personalized regimen.

You’ll only find two types of machines in Koko; one for cardio and another, dubbed “smart trainers,” an all-in-one strength training machine that remembers clients’ workout history and visually guides them through new exercises each time they arrive for a session.

“It’s not a new way to approach exercise. It’s not a new program—it’s really just about how to use technology to make exercise more efficient and effective,” Weisler said. “It takes a lot of the intimidation out of the gym.”

Wyckoff residents Brian and Debi Curcura opened the brand’s first North Jersey franchise in Franklin Lakes in April, and expanded with a location last month at Boulder Run. Memberships are transferrable between the two sites, which join about 100 locations in 30 states around the country.

For those curious, Koko will hold a grand opening event with the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
