Wyckoff's Longest Serving Crossing Guard Retires

Albert Riffel crossed tens of thousands of students during his 27 years in Wyckoff.

Albert Riffel, a Wyckoff school Crossing Guard for the past 27 years, has officially hung up his stop sign and retired from his post.

Riffel has the distinction of being the longest serving Crossing Guard in Wyckoff, serving at numerous different posts throughout his career. By his own estimate, he safely crossed tens of thousands of school children as they came and went from school each day.

A child in kindergarten in his first year on the job would now be over 30 years old age.

Ptl. Kevin Kasak, the officer in charge of crossing guards, arranged a retirement party for Riffel with his family. Along with Ptl. Kasak, Chief Benjamin Fox, Sgt. Dale Winters and Det. Sgt. Michael Musto attended to wish him well in his retirement and thank him for his years of service. Both Sgt. Winters and Sgt. Musto have served as the supervisor of crossing guards during Riffel's tenure.

Al resides in Wyckoff with his wife, Charlotte, to whom he has been married for nearly 60 years.
