Pricey Autos Stolen From Franklin Lakes Driveway Had Keys Inside

The BMW and Land Rover stolen overnight from a High Mountain Road driveway were left unlocked with the key fobs in the vehicles.

Two high end SUVs were stolen from the driveway of a High Mountain Road resident overnight after the key fobs were left in both cars, according to Franklin Lakes Police.  The High Mountain Road resident reported that during the overnight hours a 2012 BMW X5 and a 2011 Land Rover were entered and stolen, police said. The cars were unlocked with their key fobs left in the vehicles.  Both the BMW and Land Rover are generally valued at approximately $50,000 each. The garage door of the home was also entered, but the vehicle stored there had a disconnected battery and thieves let it be, according to police. There were no signs of forced entry into the garage and cops believe that a garage door opener from one of the vehicles was used to gain …

When people do things like this they should be made to pay for the police support they receive... It is ridiculous that we are paying tax dollars for our police to follow up on such nonsense! They might as well have put a sign on the windshield that said "take me!!" Please let's enact some laws that say there is a charge for this type of behavior.   more ›

Wyckoff Man Charged with 2011 Auto Theft

Cops say state police video links Daniel Chaupiz, 20, to a stolen Jeep. Chaupiz is still incarcerated for his alleged involvement in the beating of a 19-year-old Ridgewood man earlier this year.

Wyckoff Police said they used state police records to connect a Wyckoff man already in Bergen County Jail with the 2011 theft of a jeep from a Harvey Court home. The break in the year-old case came from persistent investigation by the Wyckoff Police Department.  On Sept. 5, 2011, a Harvey Court resident returned home after several days away and reported to police that his 1994 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen sometime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 5. Police conducted an "extensive investigation" of the theft of the motor vehicle but turned up nothing until last month.   Detective Sgt. Joseph Soto working in cooperation with the New Jersey State Police used state officials' computer records to find that the Jeep had been stopped by the State …

Two men had iPhones, other valuables stolen from lockers at the Wyckoff YMCA this week

Two men had hundreds of dollars of personal property stolen from Wyckoff YMCA lockers this week, police reported. One man told cops he had left his locker unlocked with his iPhone inside on Monday, Aug. 13. When the man returned, he discovered that the smart phone had been stolen, according to police. Two days later, another man using a Y locker room reported that he had secured the locker with his own lock, but upon returning found the locker door wide open with the lock intact, police said. Thieves made off with his iPhone, a $500 watch and an unspecified amount of cash. Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox cautioned residents to avoid bringing valuables to public locker rooms. "Items of value that they currently leave in a locker, should …

Linda C, I guess many of us are idiots then. There are way more people not locking their belongings at YMCAs than you realize. I've been locking my belongings at a school facility for years, but not at the YMCA because the general vibe has always been more safe. You can go through various lockers and find many of them unlocked. Glad to see you're quick to judge. Bad luck for both people in this …   more ›

Wyckoff Home Burglarized, Unlocked Door Likely Helped Thieves

Police chief baffled by residents leaving doors unlocked: "I'm at the point that I just shake my head and say to myself — I don't get it."

Police believe an unlocked door at one Wyckoff residence may have helped make the home an easy target for burglars last weekend. A Circle Drive resident Tuesday returned home from three days away to find her house had been burglarized while she was gone — jewelry, designer handbags and gift cards were stolen from a second floor bedroom, Wyckoff Police said Thursday. The woman called the cops after discovering that the goods were missing. The police investigation revealed that there was no forced entry at the home, but homeowners said that a rear door of the home is often left unlocked. Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said Thursday that he's running out of ways to tell residents to lock their doors. "I'm at the point that I just shake my …

I once asked an officer in my town asking if someone broke into my home, with my dogs in my house roaming around, is that okay? He told me, "No" because if the dogs hurt the intruder, I could be sued. He told me to take a cloth and stick a weapon in his hands, then the person is in deep trouble...getting rid of the cloth. What about pepper spray...does anyone know? If not, what can a homeowner do…   more ›

A King Road resident had a pricey computer stolen from his unlocked 2012 Nissan

A $1,200 laptop was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle in a Franklin Lakes resident's driveway sometime overnight Tuesday, according to borough police. The incident marks the third time in just seven days that thieves have taken advantage of residents' failure to properly protect their personal property.  The King Road resident told police that sometime during the overnight hours on Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning an unknown individual entered the resident's unlocked 2012 Nissan and helped himself to a laptop valued at $1,200, according to Franklin Lakes Police Lieutenant John Bakelaar. The crook was likely long gone by the time the resident discovered that he had been victimized. King Road is small street — just two-tenths of a …

MER How can the police catch the perpertrators if the criminal act of breaking into a car did not take place? Your statement said "it is much easier for cops to shake their heads and remind people to lock their cars than to go out and catch the perpertrators. A 2007 Toyota Highlander was taken overnight from a resident's Vance Avenue driveway last week. Police are also reporting the Colonial Road theft of approximately $325 worth of valuables from an unlocked car.

A Franklin Lakes resident had her 5-year-old vehicle stolen from the driveway of her Vance Avenue home, and another woman had hundreds of dollars worth of goods lifted from her unlocked car last week, borough police said Monday.   The 2007 Toyota Highlander was stolen sometime overnight on Thursday or Friday of last week, according to Franklin Lakes Police Lieutenant John Bakelaar.  The owner of the Toyota had not left the keys in the car and there was no additional property reported as stolen in the victim's report, Bakelaar said. For punishment of all convicted criminals menacing Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, or any town, I suggest, as a sentence, serving the community/communities by working for the road department for as many years as a judge orders (minimum wage or less, of course).
