After securing 48,000 votes and finishing 30th out of 3,000, Washington Elementary received their prize from the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program.

Bergen County prosecutor announces arrests in alleged credit card fraud scheme.
Eleven men and women were arrested on charges of stealing identities to open credit cards in an alleged scheme that is believed to have defrauded more than 70 victims. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday the culmination of a task force's efforts to probe numerous complaints of identity theft from 30 jurisdictions within the past two years. Police Departments from more than a dozen municipalities across the state — including Englewood, Franklin Lakes, Saddle Brook, Ho-Ho-Kus and Midland Park — participated in a joint investigation with the BCPO. Credit cards were opened in the victims' names, and charges were made on their behalf by "authorized buyers," Bergen Prosecutor John Molinelli said. The task force investigation …

Dreamworks Animation likely to order up a sequel to Kirk DeMicco's successful animated family film.
Good news is just around the corner for hometown hero Kirk DeMicco. DreamWorks Animation is set to announce a sequel for DeMicco’s animated family film "The Croods," according to deadline.com. The announcement is expected to be made this week at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “The Croods” reportedly earned $143 million domestic box office upon its release late last month. DeMicco, a graduate of Sicomac Elementary School, Eisenhower Middle School and Ramapo High School, screened "The Croods" for friends and family last month at the AMC Garden State 16 in Paramus.

Three high-end cars have been reported stolen from borough residents since Friday morning.
Three cars stolen between Friday, April 12, and Monday, April 15, have prompted Franklin Lakes Police to renew calls for borough residents to protect their vehicles. “I would once again like to remind people lock their cars every night,” said Detective Lieutenant John Bakelaar. “The mistake a lot of people make is that they know there is a cycle of crime and once that cycle seems to end they go back to their old habits. This is something they need to do always and forever. Lock your cars and don’t leave valuables in your car.” A 2008 Cadillac was reported stolen Friday by a Sunset Terrace resident. The Quik Shop located in the Franklin Square shopping center was burglarized in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday.
The Quik Shop located in the Franklin Square Shopping Center was broken into early Sunday morning. Responding officers discovered that unknown persons had burglarized the store. According to police on the scene, entry was gained through glass entrance door, which had apparently been smashed out by rocks. The break in occured just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Some cash, coins and cartons of cigerettes were taken. “We believe that the burglary may have a connection with an arrest that Ringwood had made,” said Detective Lieutenant John Bakelaar. “Our detectives our currently investigating the possibility of a link between that arrest and this burglary.” The Quik Shop storeowner did not wish to comment but did say that everything was fine, no …

The public hearing had been planned for April 2 in the Council Chambers at Borough Hall, but was pushed back to April 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the same location. Renovations expected to be completed around Spring of 2014.
FLOW-area cousins, Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri will have a hand in converting a disused three-story Jersey City building that had been that ctiy's police department into 16 residential units and a first-floor market, according to reports. Carrino and Colaneri announced this week that the historic building, which was purchased last year, would be converted from its former utilitarian splendor to a sprawling destination hot spot with with living and recreational components.
