Earth Day Market Planned at Franklin Lakes Temple

The Ramsey Farmers' Market is coming back in June, while the Oakland Farmers' Market is scheduled to reopen June 1. In the meanwhile, you can check out this upcoming event for locally grown food.

A Ramsey woman is working to create an Earth Day Farmers' Market that she says will help Ramsey Farmers' Market customers and vendors bide the time between the closing of the indoor Farmers' Market earlier this month, and the outdoor summer market, which opens in June. Karen Dougherty says she is working with the Green Committee at her temple, Barnert Temple in Franklin Lakes, to bring residents the opportunity to shop for local foods and crafts during the hiatus. “We really wanted to do something to help local farmers and artisans,” Doughterty said. So, the Green Committee planned its first Earth Day Market last year. This year, it has expanded. “Since I am from Ramsey, I know many of the Ramsey Farmers’ Market vendors,” Dougherty said. “…

Barnert Temple Mitzvah Mall to Benefit Hurricane Sandy Victims

The temple's 13th Annual Mitzvah Mall will be held on Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon.

A family-friendly event this weekend will help raise money for ten organizations chipping in for Hurricane Sandy relief. Barnert Temple’s thirtheenth annual Mitzvah Mall will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Franklin Lakes temple.  “A catastrophe happened and we are showcasing ten organizations that help meet the needs of people who lost everything: displaced people, the aged, children, the hungry and others in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut,” said Ron Lynn, who has headed the Mitzvah Mall at Barnert for the ten years.
