The following release was submitted by the Wyckoff YMCA: The Wyckoff Family Y is pleased to announce a “Parent Connection” presentation on bullying for parents on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in the Y’s Lake House at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. Psychiatrist Steve Wruble will de-mystify the game plan of the bully. Viewing the game from the bully’s point of view helps kids, teens and adults understand the target-seeking behavior of a bully. Dr. Wruble will also talk about the way that various reactions by the victim can intensify the psychological and emotional impact of teasing and bullying. The following release was submitted by the Wyckoff YMCA: Bring the family to the Wyckoff Family YMCA on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a fun day of activities including carnival-style games, fitness, healthy snacks, and more. Healthy Kids Day is free and open to the public. New this year is the Y’s “Warrior Challenge,” a 1-mile run and obstacle course for children aged 6 through 12. The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on March 23. Pre-registration is required. There is a $15 fee for this event, with all net proceeds benefiting the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign. In conjunction with its performance of “Aladdin,” the Wyckoff Y is hosting a very special children’s tea party with Jasmine, a principal character of the production. Join the Y on Saturday, March 16, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for tea sandwiches, desserts, herbal tea and juice. Guests will make a craft and can take photos with Jasmine. Please bring your own camera. Children are invited to come dressed up in a favorite party dress or princess costume. All tickets cost $10 and may be purchased at the Y’s front desk. The Wyckoff Family YMCA is hosting tryouts for its AAU basketball teams. AAU teams provide a venue for young athletes (grades 4 through 11) to play competitively, enhance their skills, and develop their game during a spring season. Tryouts are grouped according to age and gender and will be held Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, March 5, at the Wyckoff Family YMCA. Make ups will be held on Wednesday, March 6. The Y Arts Youth Theatre Company presents its second annual production, Aladdin. The YAY Theatre Company is a group of performers from the Y and surrounding communities ranging from first to eighth grade. The musical's entire script has been condensed to better suit young attention spans and the plot has been slightly altered so as to highlight some important lessons that exist in this timeless tale. The production includes all its original beloved songs and familiar characters. Performances are Friday, March 15, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the Carl Pfeifer Performing Arts Center located at the Wyckoff YMCA. The fun-filled event is being hosted by the Wyckoff Y for the 18th year.
The Wyckoff YMCA is throwing a Ladies Night party at Seasons in Washington Township on Thursday, on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. The event promises to be for a fun night of great food, music, karaoke, dancing and basket raffles. Tickets cost $60 per person and include hors d’oeuvres, dinner, wine, beer and dessert. All proceeds will directly benefit the Y’s scholarship fund. The Y is also in need of donations for our raffle baskets. All donors will receive recognition in the event program.
