Check out these photos of the labyrinth outside the Wyckoff Public Library. Less than 10 public libraries are recognized as having labyrinths nationwide.
Matthew Salisbury, an Eagle Scout from Troop 89 in Wyckoff, got to see his hard work pay off on Saturday. The Labyrinth he and his troop created for his Eagle Scout project at the Wyckoff Public Library was dedicated on Saturday. The Mayor and several members of the Township Committee were on hand to get a close look at the library’s unique new feature. "You can meditate or pray or reflect, de-stress, relax and they often say that people use labyrinths solve problems," said Wyckoff Library Director Mary Witherell. Thanks to John Unglert for the photos.

The Wyckoff Public Library is one of only six public libraries listed as having a labyrinth. The public is invited to the dedication on Saturday.
The Wyckoff Public Library will officially dedicate their new labyrinth on Saturday, May 4 at 1 p.m. Matt Salisbury and library director Mary Witherell were discussing possibilities for Salisbury’s Eagle Scout Project last spring and the idea was born. “When Matt approached me last year about doing his Eagle Scout project for the library, I thought it would be so exciting to build a labyrinth,” said Witherell. “I am a great believer in the healing and de-stressing properties of labyrinths, and they also have an amazing ability to help a walker think of solutions to problems.” According to labyrinthlocator.org a database of more than 4,200 labyrinths in 75 countries, the Wyckoff Public Library is one of only six public libraries in the …

The following information was submitted by Wyckoff Public Library Director Mary Witherell: Just restored to power after a ten-day blackout caused by Hurricane Sandy, Wyckoff Public Library resumes its Big Read celebration of Edgar Allan Poe with two back-to-back events that reflect his founding role on both the horror and mystery genres on Thursday, Nov. 15 and Friday, Nov. 16. Poe was the master of the horror story, and his subject matter of live burial, revenge, nervous collapse and compulsion has inspired scores of artists to create works on similar themes. In the final of three “double features” mixing theater with film, the library presents a dramatic reading of the Poe short story “William Wilson” followed by a screening of the …

The Wyckoff Public Library will be open Wednesday for the first time in more than a week after power was restored there Tuesday. "We will reopen to the public for our normal hours, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 7," Library Director Mary Witherell said Tuesday. Before opening tomorrow the library had to be cleaned, its computers check, and up to a higer temperature — the library is currently 49 degrees, Witherell said. The newly reopened library library should be a welcome addition for Wyckoff residents, many of whom are still without power after Hurricane Sandy Have a question or news tip? Contact editor Joseph M. The following info was submitted by Van Voorhees Association Trustee Jean Hildebrandt: As part of Wyckoff’s early history, the Wyckoff library has received the 3 volume, “The Van Voorhees Family in America”, donated by The Van Voorhees Association. In 1720 William and John Van Voor Haze bought 550 acres of land in what is now Wyckoff and ten years later William built his house, believed to be the oldest in Wyckoff. William’s house has undergone additions and changes over its 282 years. The largest, and most beautiful, addition was done prior to 1824 by his son, Albert. The original house is now the dining room. The house remained in the Van Voorhees family until the 1860s when it was sold to Uriah Quackenbush, who willed it to his …
