Rev. Michael Fugee, who was charged in 2001 with aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with children.
Rev. Michael Fugee, the former assistant pastor at the Church of St. Elizabeth, has been appointed to an important position within the Archdiocese of Newark, NorthJersey.com reported. Authorities charged Fugee with aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child after he allegedly grabbed a 14-year-old boy's crotch while wrestling with him, the website reported. Representatives from a watchdog group have called the appointment "somewhere between alarming and outrageous."

An ex-employee of a former Los Angeles Dodgers player was arrested Tuesday on charges related to the alleged theft of $25,000, according to township police. Wyckoff Police had been conducting an investigation with the owner of Garett Teel Sports on Braen Avenue when they say they discovered that the ex-employee was responsible for the theft of money. The former employee, Edward Sarro, had been entering the building when it was closed using a pass code for locked doors, according to police. Wyckoff Patrolman William Plisich established surveillance of the building during overnight hours, and on Tuesday, Jan. 22, the second night of the surveillance, he observed the 25-year-old Hawthorne resident Sarro enter the building at 2:36 a.m., …

While some parents are calling for stricter procedures to protect their children and others say current measures are sufficient, officials are say they are exercising prudence.
Wyckoff Public School officials and board members, parents, and township officials gathered at a public meeting Monday night to discuss school safety, just three days after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Superintendent Richard Kuder reviewed the schools' safety protocol, including twice monthly emergency drills at every school and the implementation of a buzzer system that screens those looking to make entry into school buildings. Kuder didn't rule out future changes to security here, but suggested administrators would look for ways to improve. “We will continue to look for ways to upgrade the system if that’s possible," he said to the assembled crowd at Eisenhower Middle School. "There are things the principals and I have …

The driver of a Nissan SUV escaped injury on Tuesday morning during a crash on the exit ramp from Route 208 southbound to Russell Avenue in Wyckoff, a photographer on the scene said. The driver apparently lost control of her vehicle while exiting Route 208, mounted a curb, knocked down a light pole, drove through a wall of shrubbery, and finally came to a stop in a muddy field. Wyckoff and Franklin Lakes police officers assisted the elderly woman from her vehicle and into a waiting police car, the witness said. There were no other occupants in her vehicle at the time of the crash. The Nissan SUV was towed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox confirmed that there were no injuries as a result of the one-…

Eileen Avia says she is overwhelmed by the kindness and concern of Wyckoff residents who came to her aid in the week following a seemingly senseless act of hostility at her home.
A Wyckoff resident shocked by the appalling nature of vandalism against her was touched by the kindness of strangers recently. Eileen Avia was hosting a party at her Voorhis Avenue home for campaign supporters on the night of Dec. 8 when, under the cover of night, someone vandalized her garage door and the fiber-cement siding on two sides of her home, as well as a pair of cars. Altogether, the damages to Avia's home and the guests' cars, which were also gouged with a sharp object, are expected to cost approximately $10,000 to repair. Several days later a widely-read story appeared on Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Patch and across social media, and two strangers reached out to ameliorate some of the damages to Avia's home. Within hours of posting …

Township cops cuffed a 23-year-old New Yorker who allegedly tried to illegally obtain two often-abused prescription drugs from a local pharmacy, according to the Wyckoff Police Department. Wyckoff Police responded to CVS Pharmacy on Nov. 30 at 2:20 a.m. following a report that a man was attempting to obtain narcotic medication with a fraudulent prescription, cops said last week. Sgt. Jack McEwan, and Patrolmen Kyle Ferreira and Thomas Tully responded to the drug store and stopped Michael Klugmann, 23, in the parking lot. Klugmann, of Suffern, N.Y., had attempted to fill a prescription for Xanax and Adderall pills with a fraudulent prescription, cops said. Upon further investigation, cops said, Klugmann was also found to be in possession of…

Four Oakland men were arrested and charged Saturday with third degree criminal mischief following an incident last week in which a 25 foot tall, eight-inch diameter tree was cut down and logs were thrown through the window of a car, according to local police. “This is without a doubt one of the most bizarre crimes we have seen in some time,” said Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox. Wyckoff Police responded to a Burma Road home shortly after 11 p.m. on Nov. 28 after a homeowner there called police to report that she had heard a chainsaw running and saw one of her trees cut down. Sgt. Jack McEwan responded and discovered that in addition to the tree being felled, three 60 lb logs, each about 12-16 inches in diameter, about two feet in …

In order to protect local residents, first responders sacrificed their own safety during the destruction of Hurricane Sandy.
More than 130 dead. Damages totaling more than $71 billion. In the days and weeks following Hurricane Sandy, the broadly devastating toll wrought on the east coast became clear. Here in Wyckoff, the storm caused persistent inconveniences, such as long-lasting power outages, gas shortages, and road blockages, for residents and presented a unique set of obstacles for emergency responders. As the old adage goes, "proper planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance," and for the township's fire, police and ambulance crews, their widely praised performance may have been the direct result of actions taken in the days preceding Hurricane Sandy. For the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department preparations began in earnest in the fire house…

If the Archdiocese of Newark refuses to laicize Rev. Fugee, then at the very least he should be stuck in the corner of an administrative department. He is obviously a threat to child and to think he would be effective in the formation of deacons / new priests is outrageous. This is sick and sad - thankfully he is out of St. E's. Let's prayer for his victim.   more ›
