'Thousands of Gallons' of Water Flood Pulis Ave. After Water Main Break
A contractor's excavator inadvertently ripped a hole into a 12-inch water main on Wednesday.
Contractors digging a trench on Pulis Avenue in Franklin Lakes on Wednesday inadvertantly punctured a 12-inch water main, immediately flooding the surrounding area with thousands of gallons of water, Franklin Lakes Fire Department officials said. The Franklin Lakes DPW responding to the scene with pumps were overwhelmed with the massive volume of water, and the fire department arrived on scene shortly after 8:30 a.m. to assist pumping the water from the trench. Engine 334 and 331 set up a drafting operation using the hard suction line inside the trench from the front of both engines, according to the Franklin Lakes Fire Department, and then used the engines's deck guns to redirected the water into a nearby pond.
