Temple Emanuel Screening Railroad Doc
The footage on display will present New York City's elevated railroads
Images of New York’s renowned elevated railroads, the “els” — a key part of the public transit system in the early to mid 20th century — will be shown in a free public screening on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Temple Emanuel of North Jersey. Action footage of the first-in-the-world Ninth Avenue El, the Lexington Avenue Line in Brooklyn, and the Myrtle Avenue El, another early Brooklyn line, will be shown accompanied by an historical narration by Temple Emanuel’s archivist, Charlie Sokol. Temple Emanuel, located at 558 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, across from the Haledon reservoir/Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve, is a welcoming egalitarian spiritual community affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. …
