The following was submitted by Temple Emanuel of North Jersey: In one of the last films produced in Poland before the Nazi-Soviet invasion, Yiddish actors Edmund Zeyenda, Max Bozyk, and Lucy Gehrmam portray the story of a mother and her three children struggling to survive through poverty and war in pre- World War II Polish Ukraine and make their way to New York. The one-hour and 45-minute film, “A Brivele Der Mamen,” in Yiddish with English subtitles, will be featured in a free public screening at Temple Emanuel of North Jersey on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The following release was submitted by Temple Emanuel: Slices of life in New York City captured in silent film clips from 1896 to 1917 — street scenes, an elevated railroad and Coney Island, among others — will be screened on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. at Temple Emanuel of North Jersey. The program is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served. Temple Emanuel of North Jersey will introduce its congregation to new Rabbi Joseph H. Prouser and his wife, Dr. Ora Horn Prouser on August 1. Rabbi Prouser is an accomplished spiritual leader and educator, according to officials from the temple. "Rabbi Prouser comes to Temple Emanuel from a distinguished career in teaching and pastoral service on pulpits in Connecticut and New York," wrote Merrill Rutman with the temple. Temple Emanuel’s previous spiritual leader, Rabbi Joshua Cohen, left in June to accept a teaching position in Israel.
