Own a Business? Claim Your Listing on Patch — For Free!

Claim your listing and get noticed by Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Patch readers

When the Wyckoff and Franklin Lakes Patches launched, editors and freelancers visited local businesses in order to collect information for our directory. Patch Places is a spot where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods, and much more for spots around both towns. All users can add events taking place at local spots, can rate the business on a scale of one to five stars, and can add a review. But did you know owners of local businesses can "claim" their listings to keep the information for their customers as up-to-date as possible? Owners or managers should search for their business listing and select "Claim your listing" in order to make updates to the page. A form will pop up asking for your name, contact …

See U Saturday Closing Amid Shifting Retail Climate

The clothing store owned by Frank Arone and operated by Angela Festa is going out of business after more than three decades of operation in various iterations.

See U Saturday is closing its doors a year after its long-time proprietors rebranded the clothing retailer for a changing customer base. Compounding pressures including big name competition, a rapid shift in the way customers use their purchasing power, and family health issues have forced the store to plan to liquidate its assets and leave the Boulder Run shopping center before the end of the year, according to Store Manager Angela Festa. "My dad started this business 33 years ago selling brand-name merchandise at a fair price," she said, but the climate for small business owners is drastically different in 2012, where deep discounts are offered online and at nearby malls. "We have great customers, but there just weren't enough of them," …

Small Brewers Are Fermenting Hope for Passage of Brewery Law

By compromising and cooperating, New Jersey's craft breweries help ensure that an industry-altering law reaches the governor's desk.

By Tara Nurin, NJ Spotlight Artisanal beer brewers around the state are cautiously optimistic about the governor taking action on a bill passed in late June that would greatly expand their ability to market and sell their products. Supporters say the bill, which passed unanimously in the Senate and by a vote of 64-13-1 in the Assembly, sets a rare example of cooperation and compromise within the alcohol industry. Initially, stakeholders in the wine and spirits distribution and retail sectors lined up to oppose multiple provisions in the original bill drafted by the Garden State Craft Brewers Guild. By the time it passed, only the New Jersey Restaurant Association remained — and continues to remain — opposed. “We worked for two years …

Wyckoff Welcomes Waldwick Prime Meats to Main Street

Grand opening was held Monday

Local business owners and township officials were on hand to help Emilio Vitolo throw a grand opening event at his new Wyckoff butcher shop, Waldwick Prime Meats, on Monday. The business, which relocated recently from its location in — you guessed it — Waldwick, has been in operation for more than 50 years, Vitolo said, so when he decided to relocate to 384 Main Street in Wyckoff, keeping a familiar name was vital. "It's important, it connects us to the reputation of the store," Vitolo said Monday. The new location has everything Vitolo was looking for, including great exposure and sufficient parking, the owner said Monday. Waldwick Prime Meats opened about four weeks ago, but Vitolo said he wanted to give the business a cushion to between…

At Couple's New Gym, A Dream to Achieve Realized

Joseph Branda and Alina Crisafulli's new business aims to help clients meet goals

When Joseph Branda opened his first fitness center in November 2009 it seemed like the culmination of more than a decade of hard work in the industry, but now after opening his second gym it appears Leverage may have been a stepping stone on his path to fine tuning a dream that has led him to JNA Fitness.  In his teens, Branda picked up a job at a gym in Ramsey and did everything from mopping floors to working the front desk before eventually becoming a personal trainer. He went to Ramapo College to study accounting, but it wasn't for him, he said — he had to follow his heart.       Then Branda found his calling and opened Leverage Fitness, a 2,000-square-foot warehouse in Wyckoff packed with racks of barbells, weight benches, a power rack…

Hulafrog Answers Age-Old Question: What Are We Doing This Weekend?

Ridgewood-Paramus site launched August 2011

A website launched in August is helping local families figure out what to do together on the weekend. Wyckoff resident Michele Carbone launched Ridgewood-Paramus Hulafrog in late summer 2011. Hulafrog is a network of websites that tell parents about local, kid-friendly activities. The listings include events, classes, camps, birthday venues and more. Carbone said many activities go unnoticed. She said some of her best finds as a local publisher include the Mosaic Glassworks studio in Waldwick and a sewing class for 4-year-olds in Midland Park. The mother of a 5-year-old and a 4-year-old, Carbone said she tries many of the activities she lists herself. Many of the events are free. The site is filling a need, Carbone said. No matter how long…

Millers Pharmacy Renovations Bring Heavy-Duty Crane to Township

3,000 lb steel support beams used in renovation

A family-owned pharmacy on Wyckoff Avenue was bustling early Saturday morning, but it wasn't busy with customers — Millers Pharmacy was busy dealing with a pair of 3,000 lb steel girders. The pharmacy, which is in the middle of its first remodel since 1960, enlisted the help of Vergona Cranes to assist in moving the two support beams.  "The crane is going to be used to install steel girders in the first floor ceiling as part of the ongoing renovation project. This is not something you often see in the center of Wyckoff," said pharmacy owner David Miller. Miller was on hand Saturday morning making sure customers stayed safely away from the construction area and, although technically closed while workers moved in the beams, Miller did his …

See U Saturday Opens for Business

Soft opening planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday

As Kids Stuff began liquidating its inventory in November 2011, Wyckoff was losing one of it's locally owned businesses. This morning at 10 a.m. the store will reopen with a new name, See U Saturday. Not only has the name above the doorway changed, the primo storefront space in Boulder Run has phased out all infant, toddler and preschool clothing and begun featuring what store manager Angela Festa calls the "tween, teen and young adult" demographic. Dresses for young girls rank high on the store's priority list, she said Monday afternoon. "We want to have a lot of dresses all the time," Festa said. "Girls at that middle school, high school age always need dresses for dances at school and sweet sixteens — we want to be their destination for…
