CHCC Vista Project Hearing Resumes Tuesday

The Wyckoff Zoning Board, Christian Health Care Center and SAVE Wyckoff will meet again following weeks without public hearing.

The public hearing on the controversial Vista project wil resume Tuesday after a month-long hiatus. A number of issues still remain in contention for the Wyckoff Zoning Board and SAVE Wyckoff, a neighborhood activist group, and thus the Christian Health Care Center. Primary amongst those lingering concerns are what to do with the Sicomac and Cedar Hill avenue intersection that was originially slated to be "improved" via state mandate following the installation of a CHCC entrance ramp nearby. Based on previous testimony, it's likely that CHCC officials will simply remove the additional planned entryway and divert potential traffic to existing entrances in an effort to alleviate this concern. Tree Lover Survived Falling Tree During Hurricane Sandy

Local activist was an inch from serious injury or death during Hurricane Sandy.

Considering a tree nearly killed George Pitts on Oct. 29, it is surprising that he still backs a tree preservation ordinance for Wyckoff. During Hurricane Sandy, a neighbor’s oak tree fell into the room in which Pitts was resting in his Terrace Heights home. “We have lots of trees in the front,” said Pitts. “I never even considered this tree in my neighbor’s yard to be a threat.” Both he and his wife, Barbara Lee, were reading by candlelight in their bedroom, a room they considered safe from trees in the front yard. Appreciate all you do in the community, George Pitts. Thankfully yours was just a close encounter. Regarding that tree ordinance, while I agree with you on the aesthetic merits of trees in Wyckoff, my initial reaction is that I would have a hard time supporting a law that would inhibit a homeowner from cutting down trees one fears pose a threat to property or life. Friends of Wyckoff Pasta Night Canceled Due to Sandy

Tickets already purchased will be honored at the soon-to-be rescheduled event

The following letter was sent to Friends of Wyckoff members this morning: Dear neighbor: Due to Hurricane Sandy, Friends of Wyckoff has CANCELED Pasta Night! which was scheduled for October 30. We will reschedule. Friends of Wyckoff to Host 5th Annual Family Pasta Night

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Friends of Wyckoff will host its fifth annual Family Pasta Night on Oct. 30, at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, the group announced Tuesday. "The eat-in or take-out menu will include 2 homemade pasta sauces (1 meat and 1 vegetarian), bread, garlic knots, salad, desserts, and beverages," according to a release on the Friends' Facebook page. "Thanks to Food Town in North Haledon for donating the ingredients, as they have for several years in the past," the group wrote. Tickets cost $8 for seniors and kids 6 to 12, $10 for adults, $25 for a family of 4, and kids under 6 eat free.
