Library Rain Garden Will Protect Water, Environmental Group Says

The Environmental Commission hopes to begin installation this spring.

A small rain garden at the Wyckoff Public Library is coming together after the collaborative work of many township volunteers. The Environmental Commission, in cooperation with the Energy and Buildings Green Team, put together a proposal to install a rain garden to the right of the library’s entrance doors. The proposal was approved by the Library Board Wednesday night. The rain garden’s purposes are many, according to Green Team members. “A rain garden is a storm water runoff mediator,” said Wyckoff Environmental Commissioner Catherine Runge. “Storm water eventually enters the water supply and carries pesticides from landscapes and chemicals from roofs.” “One way to protect our water resources locally is intercepting, treating and …

Two Wyckoff BOE Seats Up for Grabs Following Resignations

Following the resignations of Catherine Runge and Jill Mortimer, 2012 election losers could make a comeback.

Two school trustees resigned from the Wyckoff Public School Board of Education Monday night, leaving the seven-member body with a pair seats up for grabs. Both Catherine Runge and Jill Mortimer resigned with the remainder their 2013 term left, according to Board of Education President Rob Francin. Mortimer the superintendent of schools in Moonachie, has been "working night and day to get that district back up and running as the schools were destroyed" by Hurricane Sandy, Francin said. The vacancies come just nine weeks after elections in which township voters chose to seat Danielle Swenson, John Carolan, and Kathy Bowers on the school board.
