Officials: Woman died after vehicle was left running for 20 hours in attached garage

A Wyckoff woman died from what is believed to be carbon monoxide poisoning in her Covington Place home Friday after a vehicle was inadvertently left running in an attached garage, family and officials said Friday afternoon. Steven, visibly distraught outside his mother's home Friday, said he grew concerned after numerous phone calls to his mother went unanswered earlier in the day. The Wanaque resident said he often spoke to his mother on the phone, so when she didn't pick up Friday morning he drove from Wanaque to Wyckoff to check up on her.   He arrived at the Covington Place home around …

Drivers Everywhere But on the Road

One winds up on the train tracks, another on a front lawn.

Each week, Patch takes a peek at some of the more surprising, shocking, stunning and occasionally silly police-related incidents reported throughout New Jersey for "OMGs from NJ PDs."  On the Wrong Track: Contrary to popular belief, there is no "wrong side of the tracks." Well, not unless you count the top side. A driver who made a wrong turn wound up on the train tracks paralleling Route 17, leading authorities to shut down New Jersey Transit traffic on the line, according to Hasbrouck Heights Police. It took police about an hour to remove the vehicle from the tracks. We're not sure how long it took onlookers to remove their palms from their faces. Not Quite a Smoking Gun, But Close: You think smoking's bad for you? It's even worse if you…

The map that accompanies the story shows the limited road network in the center of Wyckoff that contributes to frequent traffic congestion even when there is no nearby major construction. The Shoprite and VISTA proposals are likely to add to this congestion. Perhaps the Township government ought to make efforts to widen roads and add an additional road and/or pedestrian crossing of the railroad …   more ›

It took me 1hour 30 minutes to get from Ewing Ave,( Ramapo High School) to the Franklin Ave. light, then to Wyckoff Ave, then to the Ceadar Hill Ave Light. It was horrible. Traffic is usually horrible on these particular roads anytime of day. On a different note, I realize most of the people in Wyckoff want the Shop-Rite, but these particular roads are almost always busy, not as bad as today, but…   more ›
