Actor James Gandolfini, best known for his role as larger-than-life New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano, died Wednesday after suffering a heart attack in Rome. He was 51. Gandolfini, a Bergen County native who attended Rutgers, was in Italy for the Taormina Film Festival, at which he was expected to make an appearance during the closing gala on Saturday. "He is one of the greatest actors of this or any time," Sopranos creator David Chase said in a statement. "A great deal of that genius resided in those sad eyes. I remember telling him many times, ‘You don’t get it. You’re like Mozart.'" As a tribute to his advocacy of mass transit, U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg's body was placed aboard a D.C.-bound Amtrak train in Secaucus Wednesday. Lautenberg's family and staff accompanied the senator for his final Amtrak ride to the nation's capital, where he'll be buried on Friday in Arlington National Cemetery. Prior to the Amtrak send-off, Rabbi Daniel Cohen of Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange, the congregation where the senator belonged, eulogized Lautenberg during a ceremony and color guard salute at the Secaucus Junction station's main concourse.

Famous psychologist, media personality and long-time Fort Lee resident Dr. Joyce Brothers died at the age of 85 on Monday, according to the Associated Press. Brothers died of natural causes at her long-time Fort Lee residence, the wire service reported. For much of her adult life, Brothers resided in Fort Lee with her late husband Milton, who died in 1989. The Columbia-educated psychologist received her big break in 1955 when she became the first woman to win the top prize on game show The $64,000 Question. Three years later, she revolutionized the media advice business with her own television show. Brothers later parlayed her successes by making scores of appearances on popular television shows, and hosted her own syndicated radio and …

Galenkamp was an active member of the Wyckoff community in various ways throughout his life.
Harold Galenkamp, five-time mayor of Wyckoff, died Friday. He was 72. Galenkamp was a lifelong resident and active member of the community in Wyckoff. In addition to his time on the township committee, he also volunteered with the Sicomac Engine Company of the Wyckoff Fire Department and was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church. Galenkamp ran the former Sicomac Dairy, worked as an aid for Senator Henry McNamara and served in the Bergen County government, according to his obituary. Township Committeeman Kevin Rooney called Galenkamp "a true asset" to the town. Leona J. Dornbush, age 90, wife of the late Henry J. Dornbush and former long-time resident of Wyckoff, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 6. She is survived by her children: John H. Dornbush of Brick, Gary F. Dornbush of Simsbury, Conn., and Marianne Rahme of Kennett Square, Pa. She is also survived by grandchildren Kelly Austin of Harleysville, Pa., Matthew Dornbush of Glen Rock, and Michelle Dornbush of Shelton, Conn.; and great grandchildren Shane, Brody and Ellie. Sara "Sally" Bruce Snyder passed away on Nov. 6, with her beloved husband John Austen Snyder passing 12 days later. The couple were well known in Ridgewood for donating their time to numerous causes.

Anita Crivelli, age 92 of Wyckoff, died on Tuesday. Born in Paterson, Anita had resided in Wyckoff. A graduate of Montclair State Teacher's College in 1942, and New York University in 1947, Anita had taught history and was a guidance counselor at Hawthorne High School for fifteen years (1942-1957), and then taught history and humanities in Ridgewood High School for thirty-one years (1957-1988). Anita was the recipient of the Rohwec Award from Montclair State Teacher's College, the Ashby Award from Ridgewood High School, and the Princeton University Award for Distinguished Teaching.
