Runners and fundraisers – on your marks, get set, go.
This week marks the Wyckoff Education Foundation’s annual 5K Run/Walk to raise money for the township’s school district.
The Run, and one-mile Family Fun Run/Walk are happening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eisenhower Middle School.
Entrants into the athletic fundraiser can also look forward to the “Family Fun Zone” party, which kicks into full swing after the races. Locals can look forward to a DJ, games, rides, food and drinks at the party.
Organizers say the week leading up to the run is traditionally one of the busiest for sign-ups, so registration is still open on the Education Foundation’s website.
“The annual Fall Run/Walk is one of our larger WEF fundraisers of the year and we always can count on the support of our Wyckoff community,” Kevin Amerio, President of WEF, said in a release about the event.
He said this year's race will raise money for some new programs and initiatives in the Wyckoff School District.
“Our current STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology & Math) initiative in the Wyckoff schools [has] been well received and we look forward to funding a number of programs in 2013/2014,” Amerio said. “The funds from last year’s event allowed WEF to support a new Robotics Lab at Eisenhower Middle School and various other STEM programs within the Elementary Schools across the district”
Since its inception in 1990, the WEF has raised over $1.4 million for the Wyckoff school district, which it has awarded through grants to the Board of Education.
Race participant fees are $25 or $20 for USATF Members. Family Fun Run/Walk fees are $15 for Adults & $10 for children, with a $45 family maximum.
Locals can register online for the Run/Walk at www.wyckoff.org.
