NJ Transit Crew Rescues Dog in Train's Path

"Lucky" dog is expected to be reunited with its Garfield owner later Tuesday.

This New Jersey dog definitely deserves the nickname “Lucky.”

Sharp-eyed crew members on a Hoboken-bound NJ Transit train likely saved the life of a lost dog stranded in the path of a speeding commuter train in Garfield Tuesday morning.

The crew spotted the small white dog on the tracks ahead near the bridge over Passaic Avenue at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The crew pulled the brakes, bringing Train 1254 to a halt.

“The crew brought the dog, who they dubbed “Lucky,” on the train with them to Hoboken Terminal,” said NJ Transit Spokesperson Courtney Carroll. "NJ Rail Operations contacted Garfield PD, and successfully located the owner."

As of Tuesday afternoon "Lucky" still hadn't been reunited with the Garfield woman who lost him, Carroll said, but a reunion is expected later in the day.
