The Franklin Lakes War Eagles football program might be $1,000 richer by the end of the month, if it can get enough online votes to win the Guardians of the Gridirons Award.
NRG, an energy company affiliated with the NY Giants, has partnered with USAFootball to honor youth sports teams in the tri-state area that have implemented Heads Up Football. The program promotes safety and awareness amongst football teams.
According to the NRG voting website, the awards are meant to recognize and reward teams that provide a safe, “quality football experience for young athletes in their local communities.”
The Franklin Lakes team is one of five nominated in the September vote, which continues through the end of the month.
Monthly winners from September through the end of the year will get a $1,000 equipment donation, and will be finalists for the Guardians of the Gridirons Award.
The grand prize winner will get a $5,000 equipment donation and an on-field recognition during a New York Giants home game.
Monthly winners will be determined by online votes. Vote for the War Eagles here.
