Reader Photos: Ramapo Gymnastics Starts Season with Collection of Victories

Defending state champs have beaten some rivals and won a Classic so far this season.

The update below was submitted to Patch by the Ramapo Gymnastics team.

The Ramapo HS Gymnastics Team changed history last year with its first-ever State Championship victory, while winning League, County and Sectional titles along the way.

This year’s team is anchored by returning seniors captains Lauren Casey, Sahara Gipson, and Lauren Kish, along with Sophomore Kara Giacose. All four girls played integral rolls on last year’s team and provide leadership this year.

The team also has returning teammates who are contributing on individual events or are assisting with the team motivation: Seniors Kristen Troya and Rhonda Eraiba; Juniors Kiely McBrady, Jennifer Nacion, and Kaela Wong; and sophomore Emma Johnson.

“You never know how you will replace graduating seniors until the first practice,” coach Jen Laverne said. “But we are fortunate to welcome [freshmen] Isabella Even-Chen, Samantha Marion, Kirsten Skead, and Sara Read, who have already become immediate contributors."

Ramapo Gymnastics is off to a good start with victories over Wayne Hills, Passaic Valley, Butler, and league rivals Ridgewood.  They won the Wayne Classic on Saturday, September 21 and are excited about this year’s possibilities.
