Ramapo's Jimmy Hogan Commits to Rutgers

Ramapo defensive end Jimmy Hogan put an end to months of speculation Friday on which college team would receive his gridiron talents after his graduation in 2014.

According to a report by NJ.com, Hogan chose Rutgers from among multiple offers extended to the rising Ramapo senior.

The decision was not unexpected. Though Hogan had said before his commitment this week that he was choosing between Rutgers, UConn, Temple, and Michigan, the first three of which had offered him a place in their programs, he had visited multiple times with the New Jersey school.

The meetings with the school’s coaching staff, he said, had played a key factor in making him a Scarlet Knight.

When asked about what motivated the decision, Hogan told NJ.com it was “how much the coaches care about the players and how great the strength and condition program is. And how well coached everyone is.”

The defensive end will have one more year as a Ramapo player, and the end to the college recruiting process may remove some of the pressure going into the 2013 season.

“It feels really good, I’m relieved to be done with recruiting,” he said. “Yesterday, I just went down to talk with the coaches for a little bit, then I came back to my house. And now I’m 100 percent sure I want to be a Scarlet Knight.”
