Ramapo Fencers Slash Bergen Tech 19-8 (14-3)

Raiders fight their overall dual meet record to 8-2

Ramapo starters got the meet off to a great start as the sabreists and epeeists both went 3-0, while the foilists went 1-2 to bring the first round score to 9-2. In the second round the sabreists swept all three bouts again and the foilists went 2-1 to bring the score to 12-3. The epeeists took over, won the first bout to bring the score to 13-3 and Scott Zellers took the strip and dominated his opponent to win his bout and clinch the meet at 14-3. From this point on all starters were replaced by subs that won five of their bouts to finish the meet at 19-8.

Sabreists Alex Gorloff, Adam Carcione and Chris Muller all went undefeated with 2-0 records. There was never any doubt in any of their bouts. Alex won both of his bouts by 5-2, Adam won both of his by 5-1 and Chris won his by 5-0 and 5-3. All three starters were replaced by subs in the third round. One of the subs, Gregg Dutch, easily won his bout 5-1 to round out the squad’s 7-2 record.

Once again Ramapo epeeists kept up with the sabre squad by posting a 7-2 record. All three starters were undefeated as Sam Judd beat his opponents 5-3 and 5-2, while Scott Zellers went 5-0 and 5-2 to clinch the meet at 14-3 in the second round, and Matt Martone won his bout 5-2 before being subbed out since the meet was clinched. Second round sub, Matt Rizzo, who replaced Matt, dispatched his opponent in a one sided 5-1 bout. One other of the third round subs, Adam Polevoy, showed excellent fencing skills in defeating his opponent 5-2, to add the seventh victory for the squad.

The foil squad fought to a 5-4 record as Tanner Frank anchored the Team by winning both of his bouts. Starter Daniel Kim added a second round victory and substitutes Eugene Won and Nick Bonini were outstanding as each of them defeated their opponents by 5-0 scores. The squad has showed considerable improvement and they are peaking just in time for the District Championship next weekend.
