Ramapo Fencers Dismantle Northern Highlands

Team overall record now stands at 6-2

Ramapo Fencers fresh from their outstanding performance at Cetrulo, where the sabre squad took the gold and epee took silver, maintained the sharp edge to their fencing skills in the match against Northern Highlands. The Green Raiders jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first round, with their one loss to Northern Highlands foilist Jake Shulman, a very talented fencer who dominated all three of his bouts against Ramapo. After the foil portion of the second round with Ramapo ahead 13-2, we elected to replace all our epeeists with subs. Finally epee sub Ed Lim clinched the meet at 14-4 in the last epee bout of the 2nd round. Ramapo subs fenced all nine bouts in the 3rd round and went 5-4 to close out the match at 19-8.

Ramapo sabreists did not let up from the superb fencing they exhibited at Cetrulo as the three starters fenced two bouts apiece and went 6-0. Alex Gorloff contributed two dominant victories that he won 5-1 and 5-0. Adam Carcione, in lockstep with Alex’s performance, also dominated his opponents 5-1 and 5-0. Chris Muller overwhelmed his first opponent 5-0 but had trouble with his second opponent who had a very wild, and unorthodox style that took time for Chris to figure out.  Chris finally launched a no-nonsense, aggressive attack and won the bout 5-4. Third round subs, Gregory Duch and Dan Carcione each won their bout to contribute the final two wins in the sabre squad’s 8-1 performance. Carione never let his opponent come up for air as he trounced him 5-0.

Our foil squad which struggled at Cetrulo without starter Dan Kim had a good 6-3 showing considering that all three of their losses were against Northern Highland’s A-strip fencer, Jake Shulman, who made touches effortlessly. Eugene Won led the squad going 2-0, while Tanner Frank and Nick Carpino each produced a 5-0 victory. Dan Kim produced one victory as did Ted Lee who won a 3-1 bout when time ran out.
