Wyckoff Couple Inspired by Daughters to Launch New Pajama Line

The entrepreneurs started a new company 'Jijamas' after wishing they had pajamas as soft as the ones their young daughters were wearing.

A Wyckoff couple has started a new business that they say can make a splash in the relaxation industry, and they have their two young daughters to thank for the idea.

When Gustavo and Courtney Sanchez’s two young daughters were born, family members started sending the girls gifts.

“I am originally from Peru,” Gustavo explained.

“My family members were sending the girls these great pajama gift sets made from a special Peruvian cotton called pima cotton. They are so, so soft.”

While the girls were building up a snuggly collection of sleepwear, their parents were getting a little jealous.

“I would really be thinking, ‘I want those, they are so soft,’” Courtney said. “That’s where our idea came from.”

About a year ago, the couple decided to launch a line of adult pajamas made from pima cotton that were just as soft as the children pajamas.

“Our concept was relaxation,” Courtney said. “We were thinking about that hardworking person who comes home and wants to relax.”

Neither Gustavo nor Courtney had a background in fashion – Gustavo works in marketing and advertising and Courtney works in media and digital research and web development. But, they were still able to use their skill sets to launch a new business.

“We did all of the designs, they are very simple,” Gustavo said.

“The focus is on the softness and the comfort. The biggest challenge was getting them produced. I went down to Peru in June to start talking to manufacturers, and found one who could use the pima cotton to produce our designs.”

Courtney used her web experience to build a sleek website launching the new line.

And as for a name for the new product, the couple looked, once again, to their daughters for help.

After a long line of rejected names, the couple realized “Jijamas,” their youngest daughter’s mispronunciation of “pajamas,” was the perfect name.

For now, the couple is busy spreading the word about their new line of pajamas. But, since relaxation is at the heart of this venture, they say their hope is that this is only the beginning.

“We do hope to expand from pajamas, and eventually move into all sorts of really soft products, like blankets, socks, and more,” Courtney said.

“Right now, we are just excited about what we’ve done so far, and hoping to spread these soft, relaxing products.”
