RIH Outlines Rules for 1-to-1 Laptop Initiative

Families of district students will need to attend a mandatory information session outlining the district's new policies on laptop use.

The Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education is taking steps to get the implementation of its 1-to-1 Laptop Initiative on track.

At a meeting this week, the Board approved several policies that they say will help govern the usage of the computers, and what student and parent responsibilities will be once the laptops are handed out to students, which officials say will likely happen in January.

RIH is planning a number of Family Training Sessions over the next few months that district officials say will outline all of the procedures and expectations to students and their families. RIH families will be required to attend one of the sessions.

“Each session will highlight acceptable use procedures, parent/guardian responsibilities, student expectations, laptop use and care procedures, technical support procedures, and security and privacy guidelines,” an announcement from interim Superintendent Ernie Palestis explained.

At the session, parents will also learn more about the district’s acceptable use policy and laptop agreement form, both of which need to be e-signed before laptops are handed out.
