RIH, Franklin Lakes and Wyckoff Call Early Dismissals Tuesday

Forecast calls for five to nine inches of snow.

Ramapo Indian Hills and Franklin Lakes elementary students will be getting out early Tuesday, thanks to a storm expected to drop five to nine inches of snow on the area starting Tuesday afternoon.

In a message on its website, RIH announced it would dismiss early, after exams, and cancel all after school activities.

Franklin Lakes Schools posted the following message on its website:

Due to the impending inclement weather, Franklin Lakes Public Schools will have an early dismissal Tuesday, January 21, 2014. The Middle School will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. and the Elementary Schools will dismiss at 1p.m.  All after school activities are canceled. Travel safely.

Wyckoff Schools posted the following message Wednesday morning:

Tuesday, January 21, all Wyckoff Public Schools will be released on a minimum day schedule. Middle school students will be dismissed at 12:46 p.m. and all elementary schools will be dismissed at 1:05 p.m. Morning PreK will meet at the regular time and afternoon PreK is canceled. All after school activities and recreation activities for Tuesday evening are also canceled.

The National Weather Service has called a Winter Storm Warning in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday. The NWS forecast is below:

  • Tuesday: Snow, mainly after noon. The snow could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 13 by 5pm. Wind chill values as low as -1. North wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
  • Tuesday Night: Snow with widespread blowing snow before 3am, then widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow after 3am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 6. Wind chill values as low as -8. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 15. Wind chill values as low as -10. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. Wind chill values as low as -6. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph.
