Interim Superintendent Albano Announces Resignation

Raymond Albano will be stepping down on Feb. 8, he announced Monday night. Another interim superintendent could be on the horizon if a permanent replacement can not be found quickly.

Ray Albano's tenure as interim school's chief in Glen Rock will be ending after about eight months.

Appointed to the district in late April after the sudden resignation of former Superintendent David Verducci, Albano will serve his last day on Feb. 8.

Albano is leaving for family reasons, he told the board. Albano was not immediately available for comment Tuesday afternoon.

"I thought he did a great job in Glen Rock," former school board president Rona McNabola told Patch.

Albano has been an interim superintendent at a number of districts for more than a decade. He previously ran Old Tappan before retiring in 1995.

The administrator has been working three-to-four days a week since his July start date, at $605 a day. He has not received health benefits.

The board is currently interviewing candidates to take over as a permanent superintendent. If they are unable to find a replacement quickly, they'll likely have to appoint another interim, McNabola said.

Newly-appointed BOE president Sheldon Hirschberg said the board has a glut of options available.

A number of Glen Rock administrators could take over in the interim, he said. Albano also knows others who might be able to fill in if needed, Hirschberg added.

"It's a bad situation but we have lots of alternatives that all make sense," he said.

I agree with Rene, now that Rona is no longer the President of the BOE maybe something can get done. Rona who helped hire Albano and wanted to keep the part timer so he could make his 605 a day till June instead of looking into qualified full time candidates that were available last year for a January hire is now wasted and those candidates lost. No let’s give the BA another raise for DOING NOTHING!

We are not that far apart on most things John, but the debate is always fun and that is what makes this country great. We can agree to disagree, and that is fine. This is an easy one to agree on. Have person with NO SKIN IN THE GAME get 605 dollars a day to babysit is a nice gig, and the BOE needs to remember that the Administration works for THEM. Not the other way around like has been happening since Pat Fletcher was in charge.

Lil old but couldn't find latest GR BOE budget....But at least we passed a budget, Obama still hasn't passed a budget in 4yrs as President. re-elect, re-elect. I believe Obama gets paid 400k/yr. Bet most people didn't know when they voted for Obama that all his budgets were voted down by all republicans and 90 plus % of democrats..just saying..

Big Brother.....Excellent point & perhaps this position can be filled without adding another administrator to the taxpayers payroll. It is certainly worth a "hard look" ! James.... you indicated that Rona McNabola told you "that there were no in-house candidates that applied for the position as superintendent of Glen Rock schools". Now what does that tell us when noone internal even applied ? No one wants the job or no one feels qualified ? Amazing.
