Franklin Lakes BOE, Administrators Agree on Three-Year Contract

Healthcare contributions changed for district's six administrators.

The Franklin Lakes Board of Education ratified a new three-year contract with district administrators at a meeting last Tuesday.

Board member Christine Christopoul, who spoke on behalf of the negotiations committee at last week's meeting, said that the contract, which covers six administrators in the district, represented a 1.75 percent increase annually over the next three years.

The contract modifies the healthcare contributions for the adminstrators, Christopoul said, removing a ten percent contribution on their healthcare premiums that was negotiated during a contract renewal three years ago.

“When we negotiated the contract three years ago we were kind of ahead of the state in terms of asking for that as part of our contract,” she said.

A state law adopted in 2011 and implemented in 2012 phases in a 7.5 percent mandatory school employee contribution to healthcare benefits, beginning taking effect upon renegotiation of employee salaries. Christopoul said given that change, the district dropped the previous requirement.

“We’re really pleased with the agreement and again just want to thank our administrators for all the hard work that they do,” Christopoul said. “We know that this district would not be what it is without all that you do, so we appreciate you coming to the table.”

Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated Christopoul's position on the negotiations committee. Richard Koenigsberg is the chair of the committee, but was absent for the July 23 meeting.
