Wyckoff recycling is slightly more than halfway to its goal of having 50% of residents recycle.

Each month, the township keeps track of the progress toward its “Nifty Fifty” goal by updating its online “recyclometer.”

During August, 28.28% of residents recycled, down slightly from July’s reported rate.

According to the township, the recycling push has both environmental and economic motivations. “Nifty Fifty” promotions released by the town say that reaching the 50% goal will save about $100K.

In 2012, the overall recycling rate in Wyckoff was 31.41%, which reflects more than 2,900 tons of collected recycling. In order to reach the 50% goal, about 1,729 more tons of recycling would need to be collected.
