A student from Wyckoff has been crowned the New Jersey winner of the Miss Pageant 2014.

Theresa Marie Depken, a lifelong township resident who attends Bergen Community College, was honored by the township council last week with a proclamation denoting her accomplishment.

According to the township, Depken was recently crowned the winner of New Jersey’s National Teenager Scholarship Organization Miss 2014 Pageant, and she will go on to represent the state at a national pageant in Tennessee.

The pageant says it chooses winners each year from a contestant pool of 19 to 25 year olds based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and community service, an interview, an on-stage question, evening gown competition, and personal expression contest, in which each contestant decorates a pair of jeans and models them.

According to the proclamation, Depken maintains a 4.0 GPA, and has donated more than 1,000 hours to the Wyckoff Fire Department Ladies Auxilliary. She also volunteers at Wyckoff Summer Sizzlers Camp, and is involved in several clubs and causes on the Bergen campus.
