Wyckoff Asking Residents to Bump Up Recycling Rate

Township would like to go from 37% of residents regularly recycling to 50%.

Wyckoff is asking residents to remember to recycle, in an effort to reach the township’s ongoing goal of achieving a “Nifty Fifty” recycling rate.

In a recent release to residents, township officials said the town’s goal is to have a 50% recycling rate.

Overall, the town’s 2013 recycling rate was 32.7%. In February of this year, the rate bumped to 37.19%. Wyckoff keeps a monthly track of its recycling rate on a “Recyclometer” on the township website.

The township released the following tips to help residents make sure they are recycling to their full potential:

  • Are you including everything? Wyckoff’s single stream recycling program now not only includes newspapers, magazines, corrugated and single layer cardboard, metal and aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, wax paper cartons and all dry paper, including junk mail.
  • Do not put old appliances, such as washers, refrigerators, etc. out with your trash.  Call 201-891-7000 ext. 101 to request a Wednesday curbside recycling pickup.  Since the Township pays for garbage by weight, it is important that these large, heavy household appliances are removed from the solid waste stream and recycled.
  • Recycle your obsolete electronics, computers and televisions at the Recycling/Conservation Center on West Main Street; don’t include them in your household trash.
  • Reminder, there is never a limit to the amount of recyclables your family can place at the curb for the every-week collection of recyclables.
