Senate Advances Bill Prohibiting Tall Buildings Along Palisades

Bill would apply to a controversial LG development in Englewood Cliffs, report said.

A state Senate Committee has passed a bill that could halt the construction of an LG headquarters near the Palisade Cliffs, nj.com reported.

According to the report, the bill, which was passed 3-2 in a Senate committee and will now be sent to the full Senate, would prohibit developments over 35 feet tall anywhere within 2,000 feet of the cliffs, and would apply retroactively to any building that did not have a finished foundation by May 1, the report said.

The bill would apply to the 143-foot LG HQ, which received a variance from Englewood Cliffs in 2012 allowing for the company to build taller than the town’s 35-foot height limit, the report said.

An identical bill is waiting to be heard in an Assembly Committee, the report said.

LG representatives have said that the building would not ruin the view of the cliffs, and that redoing the plans for the building would delay the project, and affect its economics, nj.com reported.
