Repaving to Shut Busy Township Roadway for About One Month

Between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. everyday, drivers should expect to see detours and plan alternate routes.

Road improvements recently approved for Newtown Road will shut the street down during the day for about a month, borough officials announced at a township committee meeting earlier this week.

According to the announcement, the NJDOT grant-funded roadwork project is slated to start Monday, October 28.

Throughout the duration of the project, Newtown Road will be closed weekdays from 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Roadwork is expected to continue through November 22.

“Motorists traveling on Newtown Road should anticipate delays, plan for extra travel time, follow the detour route or plan an alternate route,” the committee released in an announcement. “Access to homes on Newtown Road within the project area will be available from either Cedar Hill Avenue or the intersection of Newtown Road and Henry Place but not both.”

The township posted the following detour routes that will take effect on Oct. 28.

  • Northbound traffic on Newtown Road will be detoured left onto Wyckoff Avenue, right onto Cedar Hill Avenue and left onto Newtown Road.

The road resurfacing project will be paid for by a $150,000 grant Wyckoff received from the state earlier this year.
