Polls Open Tuesday for Special Senate Primary

Booker, Lonegan clear frontrunners for October election to fill former Sen. Frank Lautenberg's seat.

Polls will be open Tuesday in the Democratic and Republican primaries for the special election to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant with the passing in June of longtime Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Recent polls show Newark Mayor Cory Booker with at least a 40-point lead over his competitors on the Democratic side: Congressmen Rush Holt and Frank Pallone and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver.

On the Republican ballot, only two candidates are vying to take on likely nominee Booker: Steve Lonegan and Alieta Eck. Lonegan, a former mayor of Bogota, heads into Tuesday with a 60-point lead in recent polls.

While Booker recently campaigned in Ridgewood, only Lonegan has made an appearance in Wyckoff or Franklin Lakes, railing against “Obamacare” and recently leaked details about the National Security Administration’s domestic surveillance program at a Franklin Lakes Tea Party meeting in July, according to a report by NJ.com.

For Wyckoff voters, changes in polling locations introduced for the June primary will remain in effect, and if you plan on going to the polls Tuesday, here’s a refresher on how polling places have changed:
