UPDATE: One Injured in Single-Car Accident on 208 South near Cedar Hill Ave.

Driver had to be extricated by WVFD

Officials are unclear of what caused a woman from Hackensack to drive her car off the road and into a tree in the woods near Cedar Hill and Grandview avenues on Route 208 Tuesday.

The 22-year-old woman was driving a 1994 Toyota Camry southbound in the left lane when her vehicle "drove across the highway and entered the woods where she struck a tree head-on," said  Chief Benjamin Fox.

She was taken to the hospital by the  with a head laceration and leg injuries, according to Fox.

Firefighters removed two doors and the roof of the vehicle in order to get the woman out of the car safely, Fire Chief Mike Rose said.  

The single vehicle accident caused major delays in the southbound lanes of Route 208 Tuesday afternoon as emergency responders shut down the onramp at Cedar Hill Avenue and closed three lanes of traffic on the busy state highway.

Emergency responders on he scene shortly after the accident — including  vehicles, multiple tow trucks and police vehicles — blocked off a large chuck of the road just south of the Cedar Hill onramp.

Crews could be seen working to pull the vehicle out of the woods just after 3:30 p.m.

Firefighters had cleared the scene by about 3:45 p.m., according to Rose.
