Wyckoff Thanks Township Girl for Crafting Police Breast Cancer Initiative

8-year-old Sara Tully turned one of her hobbies into a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign for the Wyckoff Police Department. The township recognized her contribution to the community this week.

An 8-year-old township resident with nimble fingers and a big heart was recognized by township officials this week for making what they called a “meaningful” contribution to the community.

Sara Tully, whose dad is a Wyckoff Police Officer, recently turned her crafting hobby into a Breast Cancer Awareness initiative when she made pink mourning bands for every member of the WPD, and asked them to display the bands on their badges in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Tuesday night, Mayor Rudy Boonstra and the Township Committee invited Tully and her family to a meeting to publicly thank her for the gesture.

“We think these are really cool,” Boonstra told Tully.

"We are so happy you did this. We really think it is the perfect thing for [the police department] to do for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

Tully lead the flag salute at the meeting, was brought up to sit in the mayor's chair, and surprised the Committee by presenting each member with a pink band bracelet she crafted.
