Wyckoff Take Back Yields 215 Pounds of Prescription Drugs

Amount was the highest of any participating town in Bergen County, officials say.

The Wyckoff Police Department’s recent drug take-back initiative was the most successful one in Bergen County, township officials announced.

Wyckoff’s participation in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s ‘Operation Take Back’ in October yielded 215 pounds of unused or unwanted medication, officials said.

That was the highest poundage submitted by any participating police agency in Bergen County, Officials said.

The program, which asks locals to drop off unused and outdated prescription drugs, saw 251 residents drop off pills to the Wyckoff Police Station. The pills were then properly discarded, so as to prevent them from entering the general population and being abused, organizers of the program say.

The WPD has been participating in the program since 2010. October’s event marked its 8th drug collection.

So far, Wyckoff has collected 1,269 pounds of prescription drugs, authorities said.
