Wyckoff Promotes New Police Sergeant

Wyckoff Police Officer Michael DeMaio will step up to a leadership role on the force following his promotion to sergeant on Tuesday night.

DeMaio, who graduated from Wood-Ridge High School, joined the force as a dispatcher in 2004. He is the second sergeant promoted this year to have gained his start with the department manning the radios.

The current North Haledon resident hit the beat as a probationary police officer in 2006 following his graduation from the Bergen County Police Academy, and since then has become certified as a field training officer for new recruits.

In his prior role, he was tasked with overseeing the police department computer system, which connects to criminal justice records. He also handles periodic state audits of the system.

DeMaio graduated from Thomas Edison State College this year with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
