Wyckoff Police Stepping Up DWI Enforcement

Checkpoints, increased patrols planned for final stretch of summer.

Heading into a summer stretch notorious for drunk driving, Wyckoff Police say they’ll be cracking down on intoxicated drivers this month as part of a statewide campaign.

The effort is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which aims to increase awareness of drunk driving’s dangers through increased enforcement and police visibility. As part of the campaign, Wyckoff has obtained a state grant to increase its presence on the roadways for the two weeks leading up to Labor Day, police said.

According to authorities, 19 percent of the state’s motor vehicle fatalities in 2012 were the result of alcohol-impaired drivers.
