Wyckoff Named 13th Safest Town in NJ

The township ranked 5th among Bergen County towns on a new ranking based on crime data and safety initiatives in towns across the state.

Wyckoff is the 13th safest town in New Jersey, according to a ranking released this week by SafeWise, an online security and crime data review website.

The township has been ranked on the site’s “50 Safest Communities in New Jersey” list.

"Touted as a community where 'you know your neighbor,' Wyckoff’s sense of community serves as its cornerstone and likely contributes to its recognition as one of the safest communities in New Jersey," the ranking said of the township.

The ranking, which is based on the FBI’s 2011 Crime in the U.S. Report and the site’s investigation into safety initiatives in towns across the state, noted Wyckoff's numerous social and community organizations, "strong educational system," recent certification as one of the greenest communities in the state, and open space.

"Tree lined streets, a pleasing assortment of lovely homes, and abundant open space give Wyckoff a hometown vibe that’s hard to come by in today’s hustle and bustle world," the ranking said.

The township is the fifth safest community in the county, according to the list, behind Mahwah - which nabbed the Number 1 spot, Dumont at Number 6, Bergenfield at Number 8, and New Milford at Number 11.

The list ranked only towns in the state with 15,000 residents or more, making Franklin Lakes ineligible to make the list.
