Wyckoff Fire Department Honored with Boye Award

Lee Parker presented the William E. Boye Humanitarian Award to Chief Lou Graglia.

Wyckoff Family YMCA members and the community came out in numbers to celebrate the Wyckoff Fire Department at the Y’s 31st Annual “Friends of the Y” Dinner held on Wednesday, April 24 at the Wyckoff Y. On behalf of the Y’s Board of Directors, Lee Parker presented the award to Chief Lou Graglia.  In addition, a check for $10,000 was presented by Board Member Frank Crotty to the fire department from the proceeds of the event’s ad journal, along with an additional contribution from the Wyckoff Y.

The award is given in memory of William E. Boye, a long-time supporter, volunteer and friend of the Wyckoff YMCA, and was presented to the Department along with a proclamation from the Township and State Legislature by Wyckoff Mayor Rudy Boonstra, and a proclamation from the State of New Jersey from George Heflich, president of the NJ State Firemen’s Association.

Guest speakers were Director Bergen County Fire Academy Peter Hodge and Al Evangelista, Director Passaic County Fire Academy. Special music was provided by Jeanine Galenkamp, the Bergen County Firefighters Pipe Band led by Pipe Major Jim Schmitt, and Channel 3 Music.

A $1,000 scholarship named in the memory of former Wyckoff Superintendent of Schools, Roger E. Clarke was presented by Dolores Clarke to high school senior William Pettit, of Wyckoff in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in community service and as a volunteer on the Wyckoff Fire Department.
