Wyckoff Corps Seeks Funding for New Ambulance, Supplies

The Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Department is in need of some new equipment, and it is asking the residents it serves to help.

According to a letter announcing the kickoff of its annual fund drive, the Corps is seeking funding for medical supplies, equipment, training, and a new ambulance.

The Corps is looking to replace one of its aging ambulances, which members say will come at a considerable cost.

“Replacing the ambulance alone will cost upwards of $190,000, and is part of our dedication to serving you,” Corps. treasurer Jaime McGuire and assistant treasurer Brian Cole said in the letter.

The Corps is also looking to restock after a busy year. According to the letter, ambulance volunteers responded to 1,278 calls in 2012, an 11% increase over the year before. Volunteers also manned Wyckoff ambulances around-the-clock during and after Hurricane Sandy, allowing for it to respond to every medical emergency during the superstorm, the letter points out.

“Just as you have come to depend on us being there promptly after you dial 911, we’ve come to depend on your financial generosity through our annual fund drive to continue to provide this critical, free service to the community,” the letter reads. “Each year, your tax-deductable donations go directly to the purchase of vital…supplies.”
