Wyckoff Avenue Home Targeted By Possible Burglars

Police say nothing was stolen in Tuesday morning incident

A potential burglar may have been scared off by an activated alarm at a Wyckoff Avenue home Tuesday morning, according to police. 

responded to the burglar alarm at 9:46 a.m. and found stacked patio chairs, which allowed a would-be burglar to push open an unlocked window on the second floor of the 2-story home.

"The window had been left unlocked and the alarm activated upon being opened," Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said Tuesday.

The home was vacant at the time, Fox said, and the burglar was likely scared off by the alarm before he or she was able to enter the home.

At least 5 police vehicles were parked outside the residence around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Police canvassed the area following the incident, Fox said, but did not make an arrest.

The apparent break-in attempt comes just days after that aimed to educate the public about steps they could take to minimize property crime in Wyckoff.
