Wife Charged With Stabbing Husband

Two residents separately charged with crashing into trees while drunk

Wyckoff police responded to the following incidents recently:

  • A Lafayette Avenue woman was arrested Oct. 22 and charged with stabbing her husband in the leg.

Police said they responded to the home at approximately 10:07 p.m. that night to find a 69-year-old man who had been arguing with his 66-year-old wife. During the dispute, the wife allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband in the leg, police said. The male resident was transported to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood by the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The man's wife was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. The case has been referred to Superior Court.

  • A 20-year-old Wyckoff man was charged with DWI on Nov. 2.

Police said Sgt. Michael Ragucci stopped a vehicle driven by Daniel K. McCracken of Grandview Avenue at 9:27 p.m. that night after he observed McCracken driving without a seatbelt on Franklin Avenue. The Wyckoff man was investigated for DWI and given a breath test, after which he was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to wear a seatbelt.

McCracken was released to his mother and will have to appear in Municipal Court on the charges.

  • A wife's tip led police to arrest a Godwin Avenue man on a DWI charge on Nov. 1.

Police said they were called by a woman at 11:39 p.m. that night who reported that her husband, Nader E. Jafargholzadeh, 32, was driving while intoxicated. Patrolman William Plisich responded and said he observed Jafargholzadeh drive over a curb while trying to pull into his driveway.

The resident was charged with DWI, failure to submit to a breath test and failure to produce an insurance or registration card. He was released to a friend and will have to answer the charges in Municipal Court.

  • A Woodfield Road man drunkenly crashed his car into a tree on Oct. 31 before fleeing, police said.

Police had responded to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Old Woods Road at 1:37 a.m. where a vehicle had left the road and hit a tree. Officers said they found two passengers in the car, one of whom had a neck injury, but no driver. One of the passengers allegedly told police that his brother, Matthew G. Bissell, 23, had been driving but fled the scene following the crash.

Sgt. Kenneth Brown and Office Terry Murphy found Bissell at home. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and aggravated assault for the injury to the passenger. The case has been referred to Superior Court.

  • A Franklin Lakes man and Pompton Lakes man were charged with drug and alcohol offenses after police stopped their car Oct. 31 on suspicion of speeding.

Patrolman Mark Tagliareni pulled a car over on Route 208 at 1:14 a.m. after he said it was speeding down the roadway. The officer said an open bottle of tequila and a glass smoking pipe were visible in the car.

Passenger Michael A. Plumitallo of Franklin Lakes, 27, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of narcotics paraphernalia and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Driver Joseph J. DiStefano of Pompton Lakes, 27, was charged with consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, speeding and failure to maintain lights on the vehicle. Both were released on their own recognizance.

  • An Oak Avenue man was charged with DWI after police said he hit a tree on Oct. 30.

Police investigating a crash on Newtown Road at 1:30 a.m. came upon Matthew C. LaSala, 22, who they said struck the tree while driving under the influence. He was charged with DWI, failure to keep right and reckless driving.

LaSala was released to a friend and is scheduled to appear in Municipal Court.

  • Police investigated the theft of items from a car parked at the Cedar Hill Shopping Center.

Officers said a Franklin Lakes woman bought items from a business in the center on Oct. 29, put her bags in her car and shopped in another store. She didn't lock her car, and returned to find the bag gone.

Police advise residents to always lock their cars and homes.
