Weekend Burglary at Kent Place Home is Borough's Sixteenth

Burglars stole jewelry from Franklin Lakes home while residents were away

Burglars struck at a Kent Place home a short distance from the scene of another , Franklin Lakes Police said Monday morning.

The burglary took place sometime between Friday and Sunday while the homeowners were away, according to Franklin Lakes Police Lieutenant John Bakelaar.

Burglars gained entry to the Kent Place home via a garage and stole an unspecified amount of jewelry, according to police.

Bakelaar wouldn't specify whether or not the garage door was locked or unlocked while the homeowners were away, but added that there was no "significant damage" at the home. 

Bakelaar said police were actively investigating a connection between the burglaries on Kent Place and Laurie Lane.

This is the sixteenth burglary in Franklin Lakes this year, according to borough police.

Franklin Lakes Police have no plans to hold a summit , Bakelaar said.

"Burglary prevention tips are available online and from time to time we have reiterated them in press releases, Borough Email Blast, Reverse 911, etc. Residents should always exercise caution whether we are experiencing a cycle of burglaries or not," he said.

Burglary cycles occur every year without exception, Bakelaar said.

"Some years are more frequent than others depending on many factors, including the economy and what burglars have been released from prison," he added.

A Laurie Lane resident last Thursday reported to cops that burglars slashed open a screen, kicked down a rear door and ransacked their home, and two days before that .

The Kent Place burglary is also just a stone's throw from Franklin Lakes's border with Wayne, where .
