Hawaiian Trip On Hold For Couple After Limo Crashes Into Their House

Car meant to take them to airport crashes through garage

Thomas Gorga and Gina Delligatti had plans to be on a plane later this afternoon headed toward a much needed Hawaiian vacation. Instead they'll be on the phone with their home insurance company explaining how the limo that was scheduled to take them to the airport instead took out their two-car garage.

Wyckoff police and members of the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department responded to Coudert Place at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning after the limo, which apparently had been placed in reverse, took out the center support beam of a garage, said Wyckoff Patrolman Pete Goodman.

"It appears to have just been an accident," Goodman said.

Wyckoff Fire Chief Mike Rose was on hand supervising his team's effort to stabilize the structure. "Thank God there was no one around the limo when it struck so we have no injuries," he said.

The limo driver, who identified himself as Wungmo Yu with Empire CLS, told Patch he had been working as a driver with the company for about 5 months. "I was just here to pick them up. It was an accident," he said.

Delligatti said she was startled by a loud bang as she was getting ready to leave the house. "We were inside and there was just this really loud bang. At first I thought it was an earthquake," she said. "At least no one was hurt."

As members of the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department worked to secure the damaged garage structure, Gorga said the the limo blew out the screen of an nearby window and "shifted the structure of the garage." But Gorga said he believes the structure is salvagable.
