Vacationing Wyckoff Resident Returns Home to Attempted Burglary, Cops Say

Investigators found physical damage to the Cottage Road home's front door, police said.

Vacationing Wyckoff residents returned home last Friday to find that their house had almost been broken into, township police said in a release Thursday morning.

A Cottage Road resident who had been away on vacation returned home Friday to find evidence of an attempted burglary at the home, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said.

The resident saw “physical damage” to the house’s front door, Fox said, and police investigators confirmed that “someone had attempted to pry open the front door,” while the resident was away, Fox said.

Fox said police do not believe this incident is connected to a recent string of car thefts in and around the township.

However, this incident is the latest in a sting of burglaries and attempted break-ins over the past few months in and around Wyckoff, including a burglary of jewelry from a Franklin Lakes home in December, a man breaking into a Wyckoff home in November but fleeing when he realized someone was home, and a woman arrested in Wyckoff in December for allegedly attempting to break into a vacationing family’s home.
