Texas Executes Woman Who Tortured, Killed Mentally Impaired NJ Man

The Cliffside Park man left New Jersey with the promise of marriage. His body was found weeks later in a ditch outside Houston.

A woman convicted of beating and killing a Cliffside Park man she lured to Texas was executed Wednesday, marking only the fourteenth female execution in the U.S. in nearly four decades.

Suzanne Basso met the 59-year-old Louis “Buddy” Musso at a church bazaar near his hometown of Cliffside Park in 1997, according to one report, and the two began a mostly long-distance relationship that lasted several months.

Basso allegedly persuaded the mentally impaired man to move to Texas. Musso spent what little money he had on an engagement ring, a set of Western-style garb and a Greyhound bus ticket to Houston.

Ten weeks later in a ditch outside of Texas’s largest city, police found Musso’s body mangled with injuries "so horrendous that he was unrecognizable."

An autopsy showed Musso had a skull fracture and 14 broken ribs, and his body was covered in cigarette burns and bruises, according to the Huffington Post, meaning Musso was most likely tortured.

Prosecutors said the woman made herself the beneficiary of Musso's insurance policies and took over his Social Security benefits sometime after he arrived in Texas, which linked her to the 1998 murder, police said.

Basso was tried and convicted of Musso's murder.

Her execution makes Basso the fourteenth woman executed in the United States since a 1976 Supreme Court decision allowed capital punishment to resume, according to the Huffington Post. Nearly 1,400 men have been executed in the same time period.

The death penalty needs to be in all 50 states. Murderers, child rapists, etc deserve this punishment and if you are in the victim's family - absolutely are entitled to it see your justice happen. Instead, we have liberals who make laws that coddle criminals.
James St momma February 07, 2014 at 07:42 AM
This liberal is against the death penalty for three reasons. Because of appeals, the Death penalty is very expensive process for the state. Plus the state sometimes puts to death people wrongfully convicted. Finally, I don't want to be part of a process that ends any persons life. Let them end their life in jail.

There have been numerous cases where DNA evidence has overturned convictions from decades before. What do we do if the convict was put to death??? Oooops.... sorry. It has nothing with liberalism, it has to do with the ability to correct an error.

JStM: So-called "Liberals" cite the extended/expensive appeals process they demanded as a reason to not seek the death penalty against the worst human predators. But, ask them to prohibit the unwarranted death of an innocent human being in a womb, and they've fought against any appeals process that might protect that baby! Unrestricted abortion is the death penalty Liberals unabashedly approve of and fight for without a second thought or care.

GOOD , THEY SHOULD DO SOME REPUBLICANS TOO ! IN THE BIG STATE OF TEXAS !!

Consider the death penalty as the equivalent of putting antiseptic on an infected part of your body. I should add that I'm constantly amazed at the way liberals talk out of both sides of their mouths, condemning capital punishment on one side, while supporting abortion, which ultimately is execution without appeal, on the other.

James St momma, you forgot one thing. Now the deceased will come back to life. From the descriptions presented here I doubt this woman acted alone so now there is one murderer out there. I'm sure she was coddled in prison awaiting her death. Where do people come up with crap about 'coddling'? Killing is good as is greed.

Here's the problem with the death penalty..... http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/08/justice/new-york-convicted-men-released/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Hey JJ, come to Texas, we'll talk.
Michael Kinzig February 09, 2014 at 12:57 PM
If you live the right life you will most unlikely find yourself in the clutches of the law, guilty or not. Live clean and you won't have to worry much about guilty while innocent.

john-santaella SO...you know the truth... no one else, especially the filthy establishment.
Michael Kinzig February 09, 2014 at 01:00 PM
PS. if the deceased comes back to life he can move to New Jersey and you can hold his hand.
Michael Kinzig February 09, 2014 at 01:03 PM
"Musso's...but there were concerns. He was mentally handicapped, with a diminished intellectual capacity that some gauged as modest as that of an 8-year-old. " Hmmnn, sounds like most of New Jersey.
