Teen Rescued After Car Veers into Water

Three 17-year-olds were in the car when it drove into a Franklin Lakes pond Tuesday night.

Franklin Lakes firefighters rescued a teenage passenger from the water Tuesday night after a car drove off the road and into a pond near the intersection of Summit Avenue and High Mountain Road.

Around 8:45 Tuesday night, Franklin Lakes police lieutenant John Bakelaar said, a 2010 Lexus ES30 driven by a 17-year-old woman veered off the road and into the water near the intersection.

One of two 17-year-old male passengers was trapped inside the car when firefighters arrived at the scene, and after emergency personnel pulled the man from the vehicle he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities could not provide details on the severity of the injuries.

According to police, the driver was issued summonses for careless driving as well as provisional license violations for failing to wear a seatbelt, not having the license plate detail on the car at the time, and having too many passengers in the car.
